Brand Spotlight - Stinson Studios

Bark Edge Maple Bowl from Stinson Studios

Stinson Studios was founded almost 30 years ago by Don Stinson, a former Outdoor Education Instructor. Their workspace has evolved from an old horse stable to a custom designed studio that now involves the entire family in the operations. Don is joined by his wife Joanne and children Jesse, Emma and Spike - all Outdoor Educators - in the Studio in various roles. They seek to bring the natural beauty of rural Canada to tables and homes everywhere, using pieces that industrial wood processors would deem waste or unusable. The wood used at the studio comes from small sustainably harvested family-run woodlots or is reclaimed waste. The crafters are able to see a beauty and purpose in these materials and are able to interpret a practical use to your tabletop. The studio has a great environmental legacy: plastic and metal recycling is in place, and any scraps from woodworking are reused or composted responsibly.

If you feel inspired by their story or their pieces - they welcome visitors to their Ontario studio during the summer months (last weekend of each month).

The next time you're in a CTKB, pick up a Stinson Studio piece and appreciate the path it has taken to reach your hands.
